I started my first job as a teacher so education has always been important to me. I joined the banking industry back in 1967 and have had a fulfilling professional career for over 33 years. Throughout my career, I held various roles demonstrating expertise in financial management, strategic planning and organizational leadership. These competencies were what drew the Canon to me as he knew the school would be in good hands under my direction.
In 1977 the late Canon Gordon Hazelwood extended an invitation to me to become a member of the Board of Management of the St. Cyprian's Preparatory Boys' School. I readily accepted the offer and have remained on the board occupying various positions to my current role as Chairman, a position occupied since 1990. I am pleased to say that I have now completed forty eight years of dedicated service with St. Cyprian's Boys' School. It has been a long and challenging journey but one that I have enjoyed and cherished.
As per the founder's wishes, the School has remained an all-boys institution. It strives to provide a holistic approach to education. Not only do we stress on the importance of academic subjects but wherever possible, our boys are exposed to various games and other disciplines.
Today I am proud to say that St Cyprian's Boys School remains a respected institution in Barbados and has produced many notable alumni who have gone on to make significant contributions in society.
Appreciation
Finally, I extend my thanks and appreciation to my husband, Tyrone Small who has given me valuable support behind the scenes with administrative matters. I could not have lasted this long without your help. To my two sons, Brian and Barry Small I thank you both for being there for the school. You have both given valuable assistance and support to the school over the years, especially with the computerization of records.
On behalf of my existing Board members, Mr. Trevor Pinto, Mr. George Edghill, Mrs. Judy Haynes Edwards, I wish you continued blessings.
